Alea Jacarandas

My father Ameziane is obsessed with jacarandas. They are exotic trees with purple flowers which have mysteriously sprung up all over Algiers. Ameziane based his first novel on them. As I start to follow him in Algiers to understand this astonishing passion, my father dies suddenly. Guided by the jacarandas, I look for a way to continue telling and sharing an unusual portrait of Algiers and its inhabitants through the haunting words of my father. His literature takes shape again.
