The melting of the arctic polar ice has allowed the opening of a new maritime route between the Atlantic and the Pacific far shorter than the Panama or Suez Canals. Even though the route, going through an extremely vulnerable environment, is still considered dangerous, industrial countries are already coveting its possibilities. This radical transformation of the planet gives rise to a whole new controversial issue for the nations.
